The BBC were right. Looking out of the window this morning we must have about 6 ins of snow and its still falling, so I let Mrs Medic and the Speedy Strider know by text we would not be running today and having a snow day! Then just when I was wondering what I was going to do with myself a Racy Runner called and asked if I wanted to go for a walk, so I put my Canadian Snow kit on and headed out into the winter wonderland to meet her on Nithsdale Road. We then headed to our favourite coffee shop and walked through Queens Park which looked like a Swis Ski resort with loads of kids firing themselves down the hill on sledges. By the time I got home quite a few neighbours were on the street with their children so we all lined up for a Photoshoot using the selfie frame I made at Christmas! .

Once again its freezing and we have Siberian conditions on the way. According to the BBC weather forecast the whole country will be covered in snow by Thursday with the East coast getting the worst of it. With this in mind the Seedy Strider and I wrapped up warm and headed out for a 6 mile run round the Park. I didn't run this morning however Im sure I managed to clock up lots of miles at the Follow my Trainers Coffee Morning. The Brownies raised £614:00 which will be donated to the Glasgow Hospice. I am simply over the moon and can't thank everyone enough for coming along to support us.
The Speedy Strider and I ran for 6 miles and we have decided the next Follow my Trainers Challenge will be to the Island of Mull on the 4/8/18 to run the Half Marathon. We are going to take the train to Oban and then the ferry over because we will be just too tired to think about driving all the way home. Now all we have to do is read Blogging Brian’s Mull adventure to find out about train times. He went there in the summer.

This morning when I headed out on my long run I really didn’t have a route in mind anyhow when I got to Cardonald Library having complete 8 miles I was expecting to just walk in and have a photoshoot with Clyde and very surprised it was closed. All because it was 9:30 and I was too early, so I had think and decided I will just need to keep running and come back after 10:00! With this in mind I ran to Bellahouston Sports Centre which was open and the lady behind the desk was delighted to be my photographer and said loads of folk like to have their photos taken with Clyde! My next stop was Pollok Library and as luck would have it my neighbour who is a library was behind the desk. She was also pleased to fill up my water bottle and be a photographer. When I was near Cardonald Library I bumped into the Church Officer walking to the shops and he gave me very good directions to get myself right to the front door without going up and hills. I told him this information was very helpful because I was beginning to feel tired and had almost 15 miles registered on my Fitbit. When I arrived I was delighted it was now open and for the third time had a willing photographer ready to start snapping shots of myself with Clyde. By the time I got home I had achieved 18 miles and very pleased with myself. I spent the rest of the day on the couch reading Runners World with dinner prepared in advance! Monday 19 February 2018
I am running on my own this week because the Speedy Strider is in London so I got myself round and about the city taking in three of the Commonwealth Walkway markers. I knew were they were because I have found them before quite by accident. When I got home I decided to email the Outdoor Trust who set up the Commonwealth Walkway to let them know the markers were difficult for the public to locate and that they really should have them marked on a map because you could be walking or running miles on end to find them! This morning I have been up to my elbows scrubbing pots and pouring out coffee and tea for all the people who come along to the Glasgow Lodging House Mission for a free place to rest and free a place to have a meal. This morning was my fourth time along with others from the Kirk and I’m hoping we were able to make a difference. The man in charge of the kitchen said we were hard working and great team. He also taught me how to make a fried egg using a microwave! When I got home I went out for a short three mile run to the chemists to pick up my prescription and reflected on how fortunate I am. Once again I am out running and this time with Mrs Medic, We are going on an adventure which includes running through the Clyde tunnel. When you arrive at the pedestrian entrance there is a button you press and this alerts a wee man in the tower above the entrance to open the gates. Then you make a dash for it because for some reason there are two gates close together. You have to get through both and then they close and I always panic Im going to get stuck in the middle and be there for days. Anyhow there are always other people walking or cycling through the one mile tunnel so Im sure that would never happen. When we got out at the other end we ran towards the city and stopped outside the new Glasgow Distillery for a photo shoot. Then headed to the Tall Ship and over the river at the Science centre. We were both delighted when we got back to have run 8:50 miles. Wednesday 14 February 2018
When I set off my plan was to run to the top of Castlemilk and if I was feeling fine take a longer route home if not take the shortest route back because running to Castlemilk means six miles of going up hills! When I got to the windmill at the top it was snowing and I felt in the need of any oxygen mask! Anyhow by the time I got back down the blizzard had stopped and I was feeling not to bad so I had a talk to myself and decided to run to various spots for a photoshoot. When I got home I had managed 16 miles, posted my photos onto instagram and delighted MrSH had remembered it was Valentines Day as I opened my mystery card! Monday 12 February 2018
This morning run was really hard to do as I was on my own, anyhow I worked out a route taking in a few of the Glasgow Murals which took me into the centre of town. I was really disappointed the one with the taxi and balloons on Maxwell Lane was covered in scaffolding anyhow I managed the Glasgow Vampire and Billy Connell’s portrait by Jack Vettriano and John Byrne. The third one of Billy by Rachel McLean was too far away because I had run four miles and still had another two to do to get me home. When I got back I posted my photos onto my instagram account and by the evening I had another four new followers taking me up to 45! |
